Information about Valerie Erickson:

I graduated in May of 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education (Instrumental Emphasis/Woodwind Specialist for Flute, Oboe, Saxophone, and Clarinet) with a double major in Music (Flute) Performance from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. I have studied with flute teachers Pat Peterson, Martha Fabrique, Nancy Teskey, Chris Potter, Fran Piazza, Sylvia Greenfield, and Brook Ferguson, oboe teachers Sue Logan, Peter Cooper, Nick Tisherman, piano teachers Calvin Jones, Karen Engelby, and Jean Carter, and voice teachers Kim Peters and Karen Engelby. I performed in master classes by Goran Marcusson at the Colorado Flute Fair in 2002, and by Trevor Wye in Albuquerque, NM June 2002, 2003, and 2004, and attended his Denver class in November, 2005. I attended master classes by Stephen Preston, Pam Endsley, Julie Duncan, and Amy Porter, Patricia George, and Tadeo Colheo, Christina Jennings, and Brook Ferguson, and traveled to the National Flute Conference in Las Vegas in 2003, and Albuquerque in 2007. I have previously played saxophone in jazz bands. I taught band with Fountain/Ft. Carson School District 8, at Abrams, Patriot, and Mountainside Elementary Schools. I taught PK-5 Music and 4th & 5th Grade Band and Choir at Discovery Canyon Campus in Academy School District 20 for 3 years, and I started a flute choir for 6th-10th graders at the school as well. I taught band, orchestra, choir, and general music as a music sub for a year (2009-2010) in Jeffco, then spent a year teaching 6th & 7th grade choir at Evergreen MS (2010-2011).  I also taught music to grades K-6 at Molholm Elementary. I have played flute and piccolo with Colorado Wind Ensemble since October 2000 (www.coloradowindensemble.org), and served as secretary of the board for two years. I was also the secretary and newsletter reporter for the Colorado Flute Association from 2010-2013. I play oboe in the Thornton Community Band (since 2012, and am the principal of the section) I bring 31 years of flute experience since 1986, and 27 years of oboe experience to this studio, 20 years experience with other woodwinds, and have taught privately since 1999 (all levels, beginning through adults).
